Dutch Public Transport Goes Green with Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G Buses

Daimler Buses has won a major order from Dutch public transport operators Qbuzz and OV-bureau Groningen Drenthe for the construction of 35 fully electric articulated Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G buses. This marks the first major order of public transport vehicles from the Netherlands for Daimler Buses. The 18-metre-long low-floor electric buses will be used for both urban and regional transport in the Dutch provinces of Groningen and Drenthe, with deliveries set to be completed by 2026.

The electric buses are equipped with the latest-generation NMC 3 batteries with lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide cells, and have an energy capacity of 490 kWh. With three doors and an option of quick charging via a pantograph, these buses are ideal for both regional and urban transit. Furthermore, the eCitaro G buses come equipped with optional assistance systems, including Sideguard Assist with pedestrian detection and mirror cams, to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on Dutch roads.

Qbuzz had already ordered 63 electric buses from Ebusco and 54 electric buses from Van Hool for use in Groningen and Drenthe in March. The addition of 35 eCitaro G buses is a testament to the commitment of Dutch public transport operators to reducing their carbon footprint and transitioning to sustainable modes of transport.
