Chinese automotive group Dongfeng has unveiled its latest electric saloon, the Xinghai S7, under the Forthing brand. This model is being touted as the most aerodynamic production electric vehicle (EV) globally and is set to make its way into the European market.
The Xinghai S7 is powered by a 56.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that energizes a 160 kW rear-wheel drive system, delivering a torque of 310 Nm. According to Dongfeng, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.67 seconds, with a Chinese Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of 555 kilometers. In addition to the all-electric variant, there are rumors of a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) version in the pipeline.
In China, the Xinghai S7 will be offered in three configurations, priced between 119,800 and 139,800 yuan (approximately €15,300 to €17,900).
With a drag coefficient of 0.191, the Xinghai S7 claims the title of the most aerodynamic production EV, surpassing the Xpeng Mona M03, which has a drag coefficient of 0.194. Dongfeng positions the Xinghai S7 as a significant competitor to the Xpeng model, a notion supported by their pricing structures, as noted by Car News China.
In terms of dimensions, the Xinghai S7 measures 4.935 meters in length, boasting a wheelbase of 2.915 meters. Despite its larger size compared to the Xpeng Mona M03, the Xinghai S7 offers a smaller boot capacity of 541 liters, compared to the 621 liters available in the Xpeng.
The design of the Xinghai S7 includes hidden door handles and low-drag wheel covers, which contribute to its impressive aerodynamic performance. Customers can choose between 19-inch or 20-inch wheels, and the roofline descends in an almost coupé-like fashion starting from the B-pillar.
Inside, the vehicle features a choice of two interior colors: Oriental White and Sky Twilight Black. It is equipped with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch instrument display, operating on the Xinghai OS system that supports gesture controls and continuous voice commands, along with 4G connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Dongfeng’s official website confirms that the Xinghai S7 has received EU certification, indicating plans for export to multiple countries. Forthing has also participated in major automotive events like the IAA in Munich, underscoring its ambition to establish a presence in Europe. Additionally, Dongfeng has announced the introduction of its Voyah and Mhero brands in the German market.
