Dongfeng Honda Launches Lingxi: A New Electric Vehicle Brand in China

Dongfeng Honda, a collaboration between Honda and China’s Dongfeng Motor, has introduced a fresh electric vehicle brand called Lingxi. The announcement came during an unveiling event where a concept car, the Lingxi L, took the spotlight.

Lingxi’s forthcoming models will be constructed upon an innovative all-electric platform, with the production version of the Lingxi L, a sleek sedan, scheduled for release in the coming year.

Distinctly targeted at a younger consumer demographic, Lingxi will occupy a separate pricing and marketing niche from Honda’s existing all-electric e:NS range. Dongfeng Honda asserts that Lingxi’s inaugural model, developed by a youthful research and development team, is intentionally designed with the tastes and preferences of younger individuals in mind.

Pan Jianxin, Vice President of Dongfeng Honda, described the Lingxi brand as an earnest endeavour to explore new horizons in this era of joint ventures. The company has set ambitious electrification goals, with plans for electrified products to constitute over 50 percent of its portfolio by 2025. Dongfeng Honda aims to introduce more than 10 all-electric models by the year 2030.

Simultaneous with the launch of the Lingxi brand, Dongfeng Honda has disclosed a series of channel reforms to facilitate the transition to electrification. Their franchise stores have undergone a makeover, evolving from traditional sales centres into brand experience centres.

Honda had earlier made a significant announcement regarding its electrification initiatives in China on October 13, 2021, when it officially unveiled its all-electric brand, e:N. The “e” in e:N signifies Energize and Electric, while “N” represents New and Next. Notably, two production models under the e:N brand, Dongfeng Honda’s e:NS1 and GAC Honda’s e:NP1, debuted during the event.

As per Dongfeng Honda’s website, the e:NS1 currently boasts four variants available in China, with prices ranging from RMB 175,000 ($23,950) to RMB 218,000, maintaining consistency with their initial launch pricing.
