Chinese technology giant DJI, renowned for its drone innovations, has ventured into the electric bike market with the launch of its new brand, Amflow. The move comes amidst looming regulatory challenges in the United States, where DJI faces potential bans on its drones, prompting diversification into new product lines.
The centerpiece of DJI’s new venture is the Avinox drive system, unveiled alongside the Amflow eMTB models, set to debut at the upcoming Eurobike trade fair and in China later this month. The Amflow eMTB is slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2024, with initial pricing in Europe estimated between €7,000 to €12,000 ($7,500 to $12,850).
Christina Zhang, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging its expertise in battery and motor technology, honed through its drone and camera stabilization systems, to enter the competitive e-bike sector. Zhang stated, “Our passion for innovation at DJI and our expertise in battery and motor technology, which we have built up through our drones and camera stabilization systems, led us to develop Avinox.”
The Avinox drive system boasts a lightweight electric motor delivering 250 watts of continuous power, with peak performance reaching up to 850 watts and a torque of 105 Nm. Integrated with DJI-supplied batteries and charging technology, the Amflow bikes feature a sleek carbon frame, Magura brakes, an Ergon SM Pro saddle, and a two-inch touchscreen display.
With global ambitions evident through multilingual marketing across 26 European countries, the USA, Canada, Australia, and China, DJI aims to disrupt the electric bike market dominated by established players like Bosch, Bafang, Shimano, and SRAM.
