Global logistics firm DHL Express Malaysia is making strides in decarbonizing its delivery operations in the South East Asian country. The company has announced the addition of 44 electric vans and seven electric scooters to its fleet, bringing the total number of electric vehicles in operation to 61, including scooters. The increased fleet coverage extends beyond key areas such as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Johor.

DHL Express Malaysia has partnered with local manufacturer Sendok Group for the production of the electric vans, including the CAM EA4 and Foton iBlue models, alongside the existing CAM EC35. While specific technical details about the vehicles are not disclosed, the company anticipates a substantial reduction in total fuel costs and a significant increase in carbon efficiency compared to the replaced internal combustion engine vans. The use of electric vans is expected to result in a 74% reduction in fuel costs.

The new electric scooters, sourced from Blueshark in Malaysia, are of the R1 model and feature a 2.88 kWh battery, providing a range of 110 kilometers in NEDC testing. The scooters also support battery swapping for extended operations and will primarily be utilized for delivering documents and small parcels.

DHL Express Malaysia has outlined plans to transition 23% of its last-mile delivery vehicles to electric by the end of 2024, aligning with the company’s global target of achieving a 60% electric fleet by 2030. The logistics giant currently operates 29,200 electric vehicles globally, with 27,800 engaged in pick-up and delivery services.
