Logistics operator DFDS has introduced 10 additional Volvo FM Electric trucks to its fleet, with plans to add another 110 heavy-duty electric trucks soon as part of its broader initiative to lower emissions across its European operations.

The new trucks will support DFDS’s logistics network in the UK and Ireland, marking a step toward the company’s goal to transition 25% of its fleet to electric vehicles by 2030.

In a longstanding partnership with Volvo Trucks, DFDS has expanded its electric truck fleet across markets including Sweden, Denmark, and Germany.

Allan Bell, vice president and head of DFDS Logistics in the UK & Ireland, commented, “We already have extensive experience operating electric trucks on several European markets, and we will use that experience in the UK,” highlighting DFDS’s strategy to leverage regional knowledge for its UK operations.

The company reports that, within the first half of 2024, its electric fleet collectively traveled over 1.2 million miles, resulting in a reduction of approximately 2,112 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Bell noted that while there are “challenges ahead” in expanding infrastructure, DFDS is committed to advancing the transition. “We are pleased to be deploying electric trucks in the UK, which will enable us to support more companies that want to decarbonise their supply chains,” Bell said, emphasizing DFDS’s focus on collaborative efforts to support the transition to low-emission transport across sectors.
