Cyngn and BYD Collaborate to Develop Autonomous Forklifts for Industrial Applications

Cyngn Inc., an AI-powered autonomous driving solutions developer, has recently achieved significant progress in the development of autonomous forklifts. Collaborating with BYD, a renowned Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles, Cyngn has integrated its autonomous technology, DriveMod, into an electric BYD forklift to enhance its capabilities.

One notable feature of this autonomous forklift is the Flexible Pallet Detection system, which utilizes proprietary AI and computer vision technology to identify and analyze pallet dimensions in real-time. This innovative feature enables the forklift to handle various pallet sizes, including standard, non-standard, and custom pallets.

The primary objective of this solution is to address labor shortages and consistency issues faced by organizations, while also improving safety measures. By automating forklift operations, companies can alleviate reliance on human labor and ensure more reliable and efficient performance.

Cyngn, based in California, has set its sights on launching the autonomous forklift commercially in 2024. This development is a significant step forward for Cyngn’s portfolio of DriveMod-enabled vehicles, expanding its application to the widely used material handling sector.

BYD, with a global workforce of over 700,000 employees, including close to 1,000 in North America, brings its expertise in manufacturing high-quality vehicles to this collaboration. Lior Tal, CEO of Cyngn, emphasizes the importance of this partnership, stating that combining Cyngn’s autonomous technology with BYD’s established reputation as an OEM will result in sustainable and capable autonomous forklifts suitable for demanding industrial tasks.

Audrey Li, BYD’s VP of Operations, highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and providing advanced solutions to customers seeking to “Work Smarter.” The integration of DriveMod into BYD forklifts addresses the growing demand for automation in various industries. BYD’s forklifts are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, known for their long-lasting performance, fast charging capabilities, and eco-friendliness. This technology is expected to have a positive impact on organizations’ bottom line, unlocking new opportunities for efficiency and productivity.

Cyngn specializes in developing and implementing scalable autonomous vehicle technology for industrial organizations. With the successful adaptation of DriveMod to electric forklifts, the company is pushing boundaries in autonomous solutions and contributing to the ongoing advancements in the field of industrial automation.
