ClearMotion Opens Suspension Production Facility in China

ClearMotion, a US suspension startup backed by Nio Capital, has inaugurated its production facility in Changshu, Jiangsu province, marking a significant step towards mass production of active suspension products for Nio’s flagship sedan, the ET9.

The facility, which officially opened on February 29, signifies ClearMotion’s commitment to bringing vehicles equipped with its active suspension technology into full-scale production, the company announced in a statement yesterday.

The ET9, unveiled at Nio Day in December 2023, will be the first vehicle to feature ClearMotion’s technology, according to the startup.

The opening of the Changshu plant paves the way for the production of active suspension technology products for various Nio models, ClearMotion added.

The new facility is designed to have a 7,000-square-meter production area and a 700-square-meter research and development area, ClearMotion revealed.

ClearMotion, headquartered in Boston, aims to enhance the comfort of car rides, as stated on its website.

Nio Capital, a key investor in ClearMotion, led a $39 million funding round for the startup on September 8, 2022, to support the launch of its active suspension, the CM1, in 2024.

Construction of ClearMotion’s first plant in Changshu began on August 16, 2023, with product deliveries expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 1.5 million products per year, with more than 7,000 square meters dedicated to production and 2,000 square meters for research and development, according to Nio Capital.
