Citroen has recently revealed the first images of the new C3 Aircross, showcasing a revamped design akin to the compact e-C3 and an expanded model range including a seven-seat variant. The new lineup will include an electric version, the ë-C3 Aircross, promising an “affordable all-electric drive produced in Europe,” although specific technical details have yet to be disclosed.
Similar to the e-C3, the ë-C3 Aircross is expected to be manufactured in Slovakia, utilizing the CMP Smart Car platform shared with the smaller electric model. Given the C3 Aircross’s larger size, with a length of 4.39 meters and the option for seven seats, questions arise regarding the adequacy of the e-C3’s 44 kWh battery and 83 kW drive system. It is speculated that this setup might serve as a base model for the electric Aircross, while the possibility of employing the 115 kW drive with a 54 kWh battery, as seen in the Opel Astra Electric, remains unconfirmed by Citroen.
In a press release, Citroen stated that the new C3 Aircross has undergone a “radical” transformation, aiming to bolster its position in a competitive market segment. The design has shifted from the previous model’s rounded contours to a more angular and assertive appearance, inspired by the ë-C3, without compromising on approachability.
With a length almost a class larger than its predecessor at 4.39 meters, the new C3 Aircross boasts steep, angular sides and rear, suggesting a spacious interior. Although the trunk volume has not been specified, the ability to accommodate two folding seats in the trunk alone indicates ample space. Citroen also promises the new model will be “full of tricks” to simplify family life, offering great flexibility of use.
The new C3 Aircross will be available for order in the summer, offering petrol, hybrid, and electric options. While pricing details are yet to be disclosed, they are expected to slightly exceed the ë-C3’s starting price of 23,300 euros or 27,800 euros for the MAX trim.
