China’s Ministry of Transport has announced plans to install 3,000 new charging piles at freeway service areas this year, in response to the growing popularity of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the country.
Vice-Minister Wang Gang stated that the ministry is also encouraging the construction of ultra-fast, high-powered charging facilities at these service areas.

As of the end of last year, China had a total of 21,000 charging piles, with significant improvements made to the charging infrastructure network along the freeway system, Wang noted. He highlighted the increasing popularity of NEVs among motorists, indicating a shift towards sustainable transportation.
During this year’s Spring Festival holiday, the daily average flow of NEVs on national highways reached 5.94 million, accounting for approximately 10.04 percent of the total daily flow of all vehicles.
