General Motors’ Chevrolet division will launch the off-road-focused Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer, the automaker confirmed on Tuesday, marking a key addition to its electric truck lineup with enhanced terrain capabilities and extended range options.
The Silverado EV Trail Boss is equipped with a factory-installed 2.0-inch suspension lift and 35-inch tires, making it the most off-road-capable version of the electric Silverado to date. The vehicle also includes four-wheel steering, enabling a turning circle of 42.2 feet despite the truck’s 233-inch length. An additional “Sidewinder” mode allows for diagonal movement, a feature designed for tight or uneven trails.

While full-size electric trucks are generally not optimized for tight off-road maneuvering due to their size and weight, Chevrolet has aimed to improve key specs. The Trail Boss offers improved approach angles and includes red tow hooks in the front fascia for off-road recovery. However, with the Max Range battery pack, the truck weighs nearly 9,000 pounds—limiting mobility in deeper terrain such as mud.
Despite its off-road enhancements, the Silverado EV Trail Boss retains strong on-road performance. The Max Range version offers an estimated 478 miles of range, 725 horsepower, and 775 pound-feet of torque. The standard Extended Range model, which offers up to 410 miles of range, comes in lighter, enabling 12,500 pounds of towing capacity and a 2,100-pound payload.

The vehicle also features a new suspension system with hydraulic rebound control aimed at improving comfort on rugged dirt and gravel roads. According to Chevrolet, this tuning should help absorb off-road vibrations while also contributing to smoother performance over urban potholes.
“Chevrolet is proving that you can make an electric truck capable of doing everything a gas Silverado offers,” the article’s author noted. “The F-150 Lightning proved EVs could be better daily drivers, Rivian showed EVs could thrive off-road, and now Chevy offers a balance of both.”

Pricing for the Trail Boss begins at $72,095 for the Extended Range model, while the Max Range version starts at $88,695.
