2024 Silverado EV Work Truck Towing Test 750x375 - Chevrolet Shows Silverado EV Towing Test In Latest Video
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Chevrolet is providing further information about its 2024 Silverado EV. In particular, they have been focusing on the Work Truck (WT) variant, which is currently undergoing testing and validation. This is significant because a majority of reservation holders (87%) have indicated that they will be using their pickup trucks for towing.

To demonstrate the Silverado EV WT’s towing capabilities, Chevrolet released a video showing it pulling a 7,700 lb Keystone Cougar travel trailer, which is close to the maximum towing capacity of 8,000 lbs. Despite the high load, the Silverado EV performed well and impressed chief engineer Nichole Kraatz. Kraatz emphasized the importance of full-size truck customers being able to tow and haul just like they would with traditional pickup trucks.

In addition to the towing video, Chevrolet has released a new image of a pre-production model and announced additional specifications for the Silverado EV’s Work Truck (WT) and RST variants. While full details are not yet available, Chevrolet has shared some key dimensions of the Silverado EV. The electric truck measures 233.1 inches in length and has a 145.7 inch wheelbase. In comparison, the Silverado Crew Cab with the 5′ 8″ bed is slightly shorter at 1.2 inches, but has a longer wheelbase of 1.7 inches. The Silverado EV features a 5′ 11″ bed with an optional Multi-Flex Midgate.

Other notable features of the Silverado EV include 8.9 inches of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 21.7 and 22.9 degrees, respectively. For those planning on off-roading, Chevrolet has also hinted at a Trail Boss variant that will have rugged styling, red recovery hooks, and special wheels with meaty tires. It is possible that the truck may also come equipped with an adaptive air suspension.

The Silverado EV also has some convenient features for cargo storage and passenger comfort. The front eTrunk can hold up to 10.7 cubic feet of cargo, and the cabin has slightly more legroom for both front and rear passengers. While headroom is reduced in some versions, the RST variant has an additional 0.9 inches of headroom in the front.

The Silverado EV WT is targeted towards fleets and is expected to have a power output of 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, with a range of over 400 miles. After the Work Truck’s release, the Silverado EV RST First Edition will become available in the fall, boasting 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds.
