Chart Industries and Nikola Corporation Partner to Develop Hydrogen Refueling Solutions for the Transportation Industry

Chart Industries and Nikola Corporation have entered into a strategic collaboration agreement that includes liquid hydrogen storage tanks, transport trailers, and the development of new mobile and modular hydrogen refuelling stations for quick deployment. This partnership will also focus on advancing hydrogen technology for infrastructure and truck on-board fuel systems.

Nikola has already placed orders for multiple liquid hydrogen storage tanks, mobile and modular refuelling stations, and liquid hydrogen transport trailers from Chart Industries. These orders will enable Nikola to deploy the Nikola Tre hydrogen electric vehicles and support key customers while also advancing efforts to decarbonize the transport sector.

Chart Industries is providing a fully integrated mobile and modular hydrogen fueling station for heavy-duty vehicles, offering a quickly deployable fueling solution with lower capital requirements. The transportable fuel station is an ideal solution for smaller fleets or any immediate and interim fueling needs, and it lowers station operating costs.

The Nikola Tre hydrogen electric vehicle is expected to have among the longest ranges of all commercially available zero tailpipe emission Class 8 trucks with a range of up to 500 miles. It is well-suited for a variety of applications ranging from drayage and intermodal to metro-regional truckload and less than truckload to certain specialized hauling use cases.

This collaboration between Chart Industries and Nikola Corporation will provide comprehensive zero-emission heavy-duty trucking energy solutions to the market, bringing us one step closer to a greener and more sustainable future.
