ChargePoint Surpasses One Million Quarterly Active Drivers and Unveils App Overhaul

ChargePoint, a player in the electric vehicle (EV) charging space, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing one million quarterly active drivers. To celebrate this achievement and reward its customers, the company has introduced a comprehensive overhaul of its mobile app.

Established in 2007 during the nascent days of the EV industry, ChargePoint ($CHPT) has evolved into one of the largest EV charging networks worldwide. With a track record of delivering over 145 million combined charging sessions to EV drivers across North America and Europe, ChargePoint remains a veteran in the field.

While competitors like Tesla and Electrify America hold a more dominant position in fast charging, ChargePoint has established a firm presence in the alternating current (AC) charging market, while also offering direct current (DC) chargers. As of January 31, 2023, ChargePoint estimates that it held approximately 70% of the market share for all public AC network chargers in North America.

The network’s extensive reach has enabled ChargePoint to achieve a significant customer milestone, along with the introduction of an enhanced ChargePoint driver app, which is now available for both iOS and Android users across multiple devices.

ChargePoint reports that over two million EV drivers in the United States alone have utilized their accounts to charge on the network at least once. Considering the 3.6 million electric vehicles currently navigating U.S. roads, more than half have engaged with ChargePoint’s services, with over one-third becoming regular quarterly customers.

The newly launched ChargePoint App is designed to facilitate EV drivers in locating charging stations with ease. According to Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint:

“As more EVs come to market, their drivers continue to choose ChargePoint as their network of choice, propelling us over the one million quarterly active user mark. ChargePoint remains focused on delivering the best driver experience available, so the redesign of our mobile app joins our enhanced reliability initiatives to ensure drivers can find, use, and pay for charging in the most convenient way possible.”

The app upgrade revolves around three fundamental design principles:

  1. Usability – Enhanced tabs and filters for simplified navigation and faster charger location.
  2. Station Discovery and Use – Improved station identification for streamlined parking and more seamless charging initiation.
  3. Answers at EV Driver Fingertips – An expanded FAQ section offering comprehensive information for EV drivers to facilitate charging at home or on the road.

The updated ChargePoint app is now accessible for free download in the iOS App Store and Google Play. It supports all major mobile platforms, including Android, Android Auto, iOS, MacOS, and Apple Watch, ensuring a more user-friendly experience for EV drivers.
