ChargePoint, an US-based charging services provider, has introduced a groundbreaking EV charging payment terminal in collaboration with Scheidt & Bachmann, a German provider of energy retail solutions. The new terminal, hailed as the first in the industry to meet the new OCPI industry standards and comply with recently enacted EU regulations for EV charging, represents a significant advancement in the charging infrastructure sector.
The payment terminal, developed by ChargePoint, not only meets the new OCPI standards but also boasts Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance, ensuring the highest standards of security for transactions. This compliance is particularly crucial given the EU’s new Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) regulations, making it easier for customers to align with the standards while providing a convenient payment option for drivers who prefer credit or debit card payments for charging.
ChargePoint emphasizes that its terminal is versatile, catering to a wide range of public charging scenarios, with a single terminal capable of managing payments for up to 99 chargers at a single site. The solution is designed for integration with existing or new AC and DC charging stations, offering flexibility for operators. Additionally, larger fleet operators can integrate the technology into their fleet offerings via an open API, with the software available in app format.
The collaboration with Scheidt & Bachmann, a renowned family-owned German company specializing in electronic ticket systems and other related technologies, underscores ChargePoint’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions in partnership with industry leaders.
André ten Bloemendal, SVP of Europe at ChargePoint, highlighted the significance of the new payment terminal, stating, “ChargePoint’s new payment terminal is the first to provide seamless integration via the industry’s newest open standards while meeting the latest EU regulations. The terminal enables a compliant, plug-and-play solution for Charge Point Operators while making charging quicker and easier for drivers.”
ChargePoint’s new terminal is compatible with chargers from over 50 certified hardware partners and is designed for integration with its ‘be.energised’ platform, providing access to over 85,000 charging ports across Europe.
The unveiling of the payment terminal will take place at Power2Drive in Munich from June 19 to 21, 2024, showcasing ChargePoint and Scheidt & Bachmann’s commitment to advancing EV charging infrastructure.
