U.S. charging network operator ChargePoint (CHPT.N) said it is expanding the reach of its modular Omni Port technology with a new conversion kit, allowing older charging stations to be upgraded without full replacement.
The Omni Port, first introduced last year, combines J1772 and NACS connectors in a single plug and maintains compatibility with CCS1 fast charging. The new kit enables station owners to retrofit existing hardware, ensuring broader compatibility as the industry shifts toward the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
“As many automakers shift toward the NACS charging port, charging providers need to serve all of their customers – regardless of their vehicle’s connector type,” said Hossein Kazemi, ChargePoint’s chief hardware technology officer. “Omni Port enables customers to future proof their charging infrastructure.”
ChargePoint, which estimates it holds more than 60% of the public AC charging market in North America, has also been introducing new services such as AI-driven diagnostics and a charger maintenance program called Safeguard Care. The company did not specify when the conversion kits would be available but said they will roll out alongside production of its new pre-fitted Omni Port Level 2 chargers.
