Changan Mazda, the joint venture between Changan Automobile and Mazda, on Thursday launched the EZ-60, a new mid-size SUV available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions, underscoring its strategy to compete in China’s crowded new energy vehicle (NEV) market while preparing for global expansion.

The five-seat EZ-60 will be sold in six variants, with four EREV trims priced between 119,900 yuan ($16,810) and 154,900 yuan, and two BEV trims priced at 150,900 yuan and 160,900 yuan. Measuring 4,850 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,902 mm, the model is positioned in China’s mid-size SUV segment, where competition has intensified with new offerings from both domestic and international automakers.

The EREV versions are equipped with a 1.5L engine acting solely as a range extender, producing 72 kW, while the drive motor delivers 190 kW (255 horsepower). These models feature a 31.73-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, providing a 200 km CLTC-rated electric-only range. The BEV variants use the same motor but are paired with a larger 77.94-kWh LFP battery pack, extending the CLTC range to 600 km.

The EZ-60 is Changan Mazda’s first NEV SUV and follows the EZ-6 sedan as the joint venture’s second model designed with global markets in mind. The company said it intends to begin exports of the SUV in 2026, part of Mazda’s broader plan to accelerate electrification and expand its international NEV footprint.

Changan Mazda’s launch comes as foreign carmakers in China face pressure from local competitors such as BYD, Li Auto, and Nio, which have gained significant ground with lower-cost models and strong technology offerings.
