Czech energy supplier and charge point operator ČEZ has introduced the first fast-charging station with integrated battery storage in the Czech Republic, located in Prague. Supplied by Austrian manufacturer Kreisel Electric, the Chimero 180 station can charge electric vehicles (EVs) at speeds of up to 180 kW.

The charging station is equipped with a 115 kWh battery system that acts as a buffer, storing energy from the grid for use during peak charging periods. This solution is designed to address the challenges of limited grid capacity at certain locations, enabling reliable high-speed charging with a connected load between 22 and 60 kW. A more advanced version, Chimero 240, supports grid connections up to 120 kW and delivers charging power of up to 240 kW. Other operators, such as Allego, are already using Chimero units at sites with constrained grid infrastructure.

“In recent years, we have significantly accelerated the construction of ultra-fast charging points, which are favoured by drivers, especially on longer journeys. However, we cannot always install such stations in the ideal locations due to limited grid capacity or property issues,” said Tomáš Dzurilla, Director of the Electric Mobility Department at ČEZ.

David Veselý, Director of Green Energy at ČEZ ESCO, added, “This type of charging station offers a compact solution to overcome electricity shortages while ensuring charging speeds of up to 180 kW. We believe it will play a critical role in expanding the charging infrastructure in the Czech Republic.”

The installation aligns with ČEZ’s ‘Clean Energy of Tomorrow’ vision, which aims to operate at least 800 charging stations by the end of 2024, with plans to add 100 more fast-charging stations in 2025. The company operates its network under the Futurego brand, offering a range of charging cards and apps to support EV users.
