CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer, announced on October 28 that seven extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models are now equipped with its new sodium-containing Freevoy battery. This lineup includes vehicles from Neta, Changan Nevo, Deepal, and Avatr, with the Avatr 12 set to debut in China on November 2.

The Freevoy battery, unveiled by CATL on October 24, is an LFP battery that incorporates sodium-ion technology specifically designed to provide plug-in hybrids with a range and experience closer to that of fully electric vehicles. The battery offers up to 400 kilometers of pure electric range and supports 4C fast charging.

A video posted by CATL on Weibo revealed the following EREV models featuring the Freevoy battery:

  • Neta L: 43.9 kWh, 310 km electric range, 1,300 km total range, 30-80% charge in 19 minutes
  • Changan Nevo A07: 28.4 kWh, 230 km electric range, 1,330 km total range, 30-80% charge in 15 minutes
  • Changan Nevo E07: 39.05 kWh, 230 km electric range, 1,130 km total range, 30-80% charge in 15 minutes
  • Deepal L07: 35.07 kWh, 300 km electric range, 1,400 km total range, 30-80% charge in 15 minutes
  • Deepal S07: 31.73 kWh, 285 km electric range, 1,200 km total range, 30-80% charge in 15 minutes
  • Avatr 07: 39.05 kWh, 230 km electric range, 1,152 km total range, 30-80% charge in 15 minutes
  • Avatr 12: 39.05 kWh, 245 km electric range, 1,155 km total range, 30-80% charge in 15 minutes

CATL’s Freevoy battery integrates advanced sodium-ion tech, which includes a nanoscale protective layer and high-activity excited state particle technology, enabling reliable operation in extreme temperatures — down to -40°C for discharge and -30°C for charging. Additionally, the battery’s NP2.0 technology enhances safety with active smoke isolation, underscoring CATL’s focus on scalability and versatility in modern EV technology.
