Yangwang, the premium sub-brand of BYD, has previewed a new model expected to build upon its existing U8 SUV, as part of its continued push into China’s luxury vehicle segment. The upcoming U8L was teased in a pair of images on the brand’s official Weibo account, ahead of its planned debut at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.

While technical specifications were not disclosed, Yangwang hinted that the new model will be larger than the U8, suggesting a long-wheelbase version in line with typical naming conventions in the Chinese auto market. The “L” suffix often denotes a more spacious variant designed for greater rear passenger comfort.

The U8, launched in September 2023 with a starting price of RMB 1.098 million, is an off-road SUV equipped with BYD’s e4 platform and four electric motors delivering over 1,000 horsepower. The vehicle measures 5,319 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. The introduction of the U8L is expected to appeal to buyers seeking additional cabin space in the ultra-luxury SUV category.

Yangwang was officially launched by BYD in January 2023 to target the premium automotive market, with its offerings priced from RMB 628,000 to over RMB 1.6 million. The brand’s lineup currently includes the U8 SUV, the U9 electric supercar, and the recently unveiled U7 luxury electric sedan. All models feature the brand’s proprietary e4 powertrain technology. The U8L will be formally revealed at the Shanghai auto show, running from April 23 to May 2.
