Fang Cheng Bao, the personalized sub-brand of BYD, has introduced its latest crossover SUV model, the Bao 8, along with two intriguing concepts, the Super 3 and Super 9, as part of its showcase leading up to the 2024 Beijing auto show.

The new models were revealed at Fang Cheng Bao’s spring launch event in Shenzhen, marking the debut of its complete product lineup, including its initial model, the Bao 5. The Super 3 concept previews the upcoming SUV, the Bao 3, while the Super 9 concept presents a 2-seat supercar vision.

Fang Cheng Bao has announced plans to exhibit its full range of models at the upcoming Beijing auto show. The Fang Cheng Bao brand was officially unveiled by BYD on August 16, 2023, with the launch of its inaugural model, the Bao 5 off-road SUV.

The plug-in hybrid Bao 5 hit the market on November 9, 2023, starting at RMB 289,800 ($40,040), and deliveries commenced on November 23. Alongside the brand launch, BYD revealed the Super 8 concept, a preview of the Bao 8, and another model, the Bao 3.

Since its market debut in November 2023, the Bao 5 has achieved nearly 20,000 deliveries, according to Fang Cheng Bao’s general manager, Xiong Tianbo, speaking at the recent event. The Bao 8, based on the earlier Super 8 concept, embodies a futuristic starship-inspired design philosophy, Fang Cheng Bao explained.

The Super 3 concept, representing the Bao 3, features a starfighter-inspired design language, characterized by clean, three-dimensional lines that create a sculpted metal body, offering a bold statement of individuality, according to the brand.

The Super 9 blends speed and artistry, standing out as a specialized sports car in the Speedster category, featuring a space-cockpit cabin, as described by the brand.

BYD has developed an exclusive DMO platform for the Fang Cheng Bao brand, with “O” standing for off-road and “DM” for dual mode. The DMO platform represents a groundbreaking hybrid technology platform aimed at bridging the gap between new energy vehicles (NEVs) and traditional fuel vehicles, as explained by BYD during its August 2023 launch event.

The Bao 5, the first model based on the DMO platform, offers off-road capabilities while maintaining fuel efficiency and urban SUV comfort, Fang Cheng Bao highlighted at its recent launch.
