Denza, the premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under BYD, has officially launched its Z9GT model, following a pre-sale period that began a month ago. This marks the first release since BYD acquired full control of Denza. The Z9GT features a tri-motor powertrain and offers a range of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, with prices starting at RMB 334,800 ($47,460).
Denza’s Z9GT is available in five variants—three PHEV and two BEV models—with introductory prices set until December 31, 2024. Additionally, Denza is offering two PHEV First Edition models, limited to 2,010 units. Deliveries of the Z9GT commenced at launch. The vehicle’s standout technology includes BYD’s e3 system, a scaled-down version of the e4 technology typically used in the automaker’s ultra-luxury models.
“The Z9GT is built on Denza’s Xuanji architecture, incorporating tri-motor independent drive with dual-motor independent steering, giving it advanced handling capabilities,” Denza said. This design allows for a rear-wheel steering angle of up to 10°, enabling a turning radius of just 4.62 meters, comparable to much smaller vehicles.
In terms of performance, the BEV variant boasts a peak power of up to 710 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. It is equipped with a 100 kWh battery, providing a CLTC range of 630 kilometers.
The PHEV model, which combines electric motors with a 2.0-liter engine, offers a total range of up to 1,100 kilometers when fully charged and fueled, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds.
Denza’s launch of the Z9GT comes amid significant changes in its corporate structure, as BYD recently became the sole shareholder after Mercedes-Benz exited the joint venture earlier this year. The Z9GT is part of Denza’s Z series, which will also include a sedan version, set to launch later this year.
