BYD in May sold 114,943 vehicles, up 250.44 percent from 32,800 vehicles in the same month last year and up 8.39 percent over April.
Total vehicle sales in May exceeded 100,000 units for the third month in a row. BYD is China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer.
BYD stopped production and sales of internal combustion engine vehicles in March this year and focused on producing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
Of the total sales in May, 114,183 units were new energy passenger vehicle types, including 53,349 BEV and 60,834 PHEV. Meanwhile, the remaining 760 units are commercial types.
BYD produced 118,135 vehicles in May of which 57,029 were all-electric passenger vehicles and 60,346 were plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles.
The total capacity of the energy storage battery installed in May was 6,203 GWh. The number was up 147.92 percent from a year ago but down 0.62 percent from the previous month.
