BYD has achieved a major production milestone with the 100,000th Sealion 06 SUV rolling off the assembly line, just 100 days after the model’s launch. The milestone marks the fastest ramp-up for any model in the company’s history, underscoring the strong market reception for its latest mid-size SUV.
The Sealion 06, introduced on July 24, replaces the Song Plus within the Ocean series, which features designs inspired by marine life.

Available in both hybrid (Sealion 06 DM-i) and fully electric (Sealion 06 EV) versions, the SUV is offered in three trims each, with starting prices from RMB 139,800 ($19,660) for the DM-i and RMB 143,800 for the EV. Measuring 4,810 mm in length and 1,920 mm in width, it slightly exceeds the dimensions of Tesla’s Model Y.
The Sealion 06’s rapid success has driven a significant realignment in BYD’s sales structure. In September, the Sealion family sold 54,065 units, becoming the company’s second-best-selling model and surpassing the Seal family.

This represents a 363.56% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, Song family sales dropped 52.68% to 42,178 units, reflecting the model’s gradual phase-out as the Sealion series takes over its market position.
The Sealion lineup’s swift momentum highlights BYD’s evolving strategy to streamline its dual-series portfolio — the Dynasty series, named after historical Chinese dynasties, and the Ocean series, themed around marine elements. With the Sealion 06 now firmly established, BYD continues to consolidate its dominance in China’s competitive new energy vehicle market.
