BYD on Friday previewed two new flagship models, the Seal 08 sedan and Sealion 08 sport utility vehicle, as it steps up its push into the premium new energy vehicle (NEV) segment ahead of planned launches in 2026.
The company released its first teaser images of the models, which will serve as the flagship vehicles of BYD’s Ocean lineup, following the appearance of spy photos earlier in the week. The camouflaged vehicles carry “Ocean 8” markings, underscoring their positioning at the top of the range.

BYD did not disclose technical specifications, but said the Seal 08 will be a mid-to-large sedan, while the Sealion 08 will be a mid-to-large SUV. The company previously introduced the models during its Ocean Day event on Dec. 15, 2025, marking the Ocean lineup’s fourth anniversary.
“These models will redefine premium NEV standards,” Zhang Zhuo, head of Ocean lineup sales, said at the December event, adding that the Seal 08 and Sealion 08 are scheduled to officially debut in the first quarter of 2026.

BYD’s Ocean lineup currently includes the Seal and Sealion series, as well as the Dolphin and Seagull compact electric vehicles. The Song Plus SUVs, previously part of the Ocean family, have since been phased out.
Beyond the Ocean series, BYD is also preparing to roll out two new flagship models under its Dynasty lineup in the first half of this year. At an event on Jan. 10, the automaker said it would introduce D-segment vehicles tentatively known as the Han sedan 9 series and Tang SUV 9 series, with official names yet to be finalized.

Together, the four upcoming models represent BYD’s latest effort to move further upmarket. While the company’s premium ambitions have so far been led by its sub-brands — including Denza, Fang Cheng Bao and Yangwang — the new Ocean and Dynasty flagships signal a broader push by the core BYD brand into higher-end segments.
