BYD has previewed two upcoming flagship models for its Dynasty lineup, signaling an expansion into higher-end segments as the Chinese new energy vehicle maker broadens its product range.

At an event on Saturday, BYD said it plans to launch two D-segment models under the Dynasty brand in the first half of the year: a new flagship sedan under the Han nameplate and a flagship sport utility vehicle under the Tang series. Both models are expected to sit at the top of their respective lineups.

The company said the official names for the new vehicles have yet to be finalised and that it is seeking input from its user community. Proposed names include “Great Han” or Han 9 for the sedan, and “Great Tang” or Tang 9 for the SUV. In China, the number 9 is commonly used to denote a brand’s most premium offerings.

The Tang 9 series SUV will be the production version of the Dynasty-D full-size concept SUV that BYD unveiled at the Shanghai auto show in April 2025. The model is expected to target the premium segment, with pricing around 400,000 yuan ($57,330).

The Tang range is currently BYD’s flagship SUV line within the Dynasty portfolio and includes the Tang L DM and Tang DM-i hybrids, as well as the all-electric Tang L EV, with starting prices ranging from 179,800 yuan to 289,800 yuan. The Han series serves as the brand’s flagship sedan lineup, comprising the hybrid Han L DM and Han DM-i, alongside the battery-electric Han L EV and Han EV.

The planned launches underscore BYD’s efforts to move further upmarket while reinforcing its Dynasty lineup, which remains central to the company’s strategy in China’s increasingly competitive new energy vehicle market.
