BYD has opened reservations for the second-generation Seal 07, a redesigned electric sedan featuring its second-generation Blade Battery, flash charging technology and a larger body than the current model.
Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean lineup sales division, announced the reservation launch on Weibo on Monday. The company has not disclosed pre-sales prices, making the initial reservation period a blind booking process.
According to BYD’s official poster, customers who reserve the vehicle will receive priority production and delivery. Deposits are fully refundable before orders are locked in, and customers can adjust their preferred colors and configurations after the official launch. BYD is also offering exclusive gifts to customers who complete their reservations and take delivery.
Flash Charging and New Technology
The second-generation Seal 07 will use BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. The company promotes the system with the claim that it is “ready in 5 minutes, full in 9 minutes.”
Other equipment includes the DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological body control system, front double-wishbone suspension and a reinforced five-link rear suspension. The sedan will also feature BYD’s Smart Ecosystem 2.0.
The vehicle follows BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, with styling shared with the Seal 08. Buyers will be able to choose from six exterior colors and three interior color schemes.
BYD previously revealed the car’s exterior on September 28, followed by cabin details on October 23.
Larger Dimensions and Updated Cabin
The second-generation Seal 07 measures 5,080 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with a 2,960 mm wheelbase. Compared with the Seal 07 EV launched in March, the new model is 85 mm longer and has a wheelbase extended by 60 mm.
The cabin includes front zero-gravity seats with massage, ventilation and heating functions, as well as a 20-speaker Devialet audio system. BYD lists a 618-liter rear trunk and a 160-liter front trunk.
The version shown in the official materials has roof-mounted LiDAR. BYD has not yet provided details about its driver-assistance functions or confirmed how the equipment will be distributed across different trims.
Electric and Plug-In Hybrid Versions
Earlier filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) disclosed specifications for both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
The battery-electric model is listed with peak motor outputs of 245 kW (329 hp) and 300 kW. Both figures exceed the 240 kW output of the Seal 07 EV introduced in March.
The filings also included a plug-in hybrid version retaining the Seal 07 DM-i name. It combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a 160 kW electric motor and a 38.029 kWh battery. Its reported electric-only range is 245 km under the WLTC test cycle.
BYD’s latest reservation announcement did not specify whether the same booking arrangements apply to the plug-in hybrid.
For comparison, the Seal 07 EV launched on March 5 with two variants priced at 169,900 yuan ($25,300) and 189,900 yuan. Pricing for the second-generation model has not been announced.
Seal-Series Sales Face Pressure
The redesign arrives as BYD’s Seal lineup records lower sales than a year earlier. Data compiled by CnEVPost shows that the series sold 46,718 vehicles in September, down 9.04% year on year and 1.57% from August.
During the first nine months of the year, Seal-series sales totaled 304,723 vehicles, a 14.11% decline compared with the same period last year.
The lineup includes the Seal 07 and several other battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models. The second-generation Seal 07 adds faster charging, updated chassis technology and increased dimensions as BYD prepares its next iteration of the sedan.
