Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 6 DM-i in Singapore, marking its first hybrid offering in the country as it seeks to broaden its product range in one of Asia’s most competitive automotive markets.
The Sealion 6 DM-i, known as the Song Plus DM-i in China, was unveiled during a local event, according to a statement from the company. The model is priced from S$212,888 ($166,140) in Singapore, inclusive of the Guaranteed Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which is required for car ownership in the city-state.
Singapore’s stringent vehicle ownership policies and high COE costs make it one of the most expensive markets globally. Despite this, BYD has steadily grown its presence in the region. In addition to the Sealion 6 DM-i, the automaker currently offers models such as the Seal, Dolphin, Sealion 7, M6, and Atto 3—known in China as the Yuan Plus. The Denza D9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), from BYD’s premium sub-brand, is also available in the country.
The launch of the Sealion 6 DM-i follows BYD’s introduction of the 2025 Song Plus DM-i in China in July, where it is priced from RMB 135,800 ($18,940). BYD entered Singapore’s passenger vehicle market in 2022 with the Atto 3 and has since grown to become the city-state’s top-selling NEV brand. In 2024, it sold 6,191 vehicles in Singapore, according to data from the Land Transport Authority.
Globally, BYD sold 382,585 NEVs in June, an 11.98% increase from a year earlier. Overseas sales reached 90,049 units in the same month, marking a 233.58% year-on-year rise and extending a seven-month streak of record-breaking international sales.
