BYD has introduced its compact electric SUV, the Yuan Up, to the Malaysian market under the name Atto 2, marking the model’s global debut in a right-hand drive configuration. The vehicle went on sale in Malaysia on July 24, the company announced on Tuesday.
The Atto 2 is offered in a single Premium variant with a starting price of 100,000 Malaysian Ringgit ($23,630). It features a 51.13-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering a New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) range of 410 kilometers—exceeding the battery capacity of its Chinese and European counterparts.
BYD said the model launch builds on the company’s growing recognition in Malaysia, where it has led battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales for three consecutive years. The Yuan Up is currently offered in eight variants in China, priced from RMB 96,800 ($13,490) to RMB 119,800.
Since entering the Malaysian passenger vehicle market in December 2022 with the launch of the Yuan Plus, BYD and its premium brand Denza have established more than 40 sales outlets across the country.
In June, BYD reported global sales of 382,585 new energy vehicles (NEVs), reflecting an 11.98% year-on-year increase. Overseas sales reached 90,049 units, marking the seventh consecutive month of record growth and a 233.58% rise from the same period last year.
