Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD has launched the Glory Edition update for its all-electric Seal EV, offering a lower starting price as part of its ongoing strategy to increase market share.
The Seal EV Glory Edition now starts at RMB 179,800 (25,000), marking a RMB 10,000 (5.27 percent) reduction from its predecessor’s starting price of RMB 189,800.
As the flagship sedan of BYD’s Ocean series, the Seal EV was initially launched in China on July 29, 2022, as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and positioned as a strong competitor to the Tesla Model 3 in China.
The recent update to the Seal EV lineup follows BYD’s pattern of introducing lower-priced models compared to their gasoline counterparts. This strategy began a month ago and aims to enhance the brand’s competitiveness in the market.
The Seal EV Glory Edition is available in five variants, with prices starting at RMB 179,800 and going up to RMB 249,800. This range of variants offers customers a choice based on their budget and preferences.
While the key specifications of the Seal EV remain unchanged, the Glory Edition includes updates such as smart switching of vehicle power, enhancing the overall driving experience.
The Seal EV Glory Edition retains its dimensions, measuring 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height, and featuring a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
The lower-priced variants of the Seal EV are equipped with a blade battery with a capacity of 61.4 kWh, providing a CLTC range of 550 kilometers. Meanwhile, the higher-priced variants feature a larger 82.5 kWh blade battery, offering a CLTC range of 700 kilometers.
The Seal EV Glory Edition is available in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, with the dual-motor variant capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in as fast as 3.8 seconds.
