BYD has submitted regulatory filings for a new electric vehicle, the Song L GT, marking a potential sportier addition to its Song family lineup. The model appeared in the latest approval catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a key regulatory step toward market launch.
The Song L GT is presented as a shooting brake-style model and is classified in the MIIT catalog as a pure electric sedan, despite the Song L EV being labeled a shooting brake SUV by BYD. The model shares its dimensions with the existing Song L EV, measuring 4,840 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. Curb weight varies across configurations, ranging from 2,120 to 2,380 kilograms, while top speeds reach up to 225 km/h.
Three versions of the Song L GT were filed under product codes BYD7007BEVA3, BYD7007BEVA4, and BYD7007BEVA5. The first two are single-motor variants offering 170 kW and 230 kW of peak power, respectively. The third version features a dual-motor setup, with a 160 kW front motor and 230 kW rear motor. All variants use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from BYD’s FinDreams Battery unit.
Images included in the regulatory submission suggest the model may feature LiDAR, hinting at enhanced smart driving capabilities. Production will take place at BYD’s factories in six Chinese cities, including Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, and Hefei.
The Song L GT would join a growing Song lineup that includes the Song L EV, Song L DM-i, and Song Pro DM-i under the Dynasty series, as well as the Song Plus EV and DM-i from the Ocean series. While BYD has yet to release official information about the GT variant, the name suggests a sportier orientation compared to the Song L EV, which launched in December 2023 and is currently priced from RMB 135,800 to RMB 249,800.
