BYD has introduced two new electric vehicle models in Vietnam, expanding its lineup in the Southeast Asian market to five offerings. The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer launched the all-electric Han EV sedan and the M6 electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on October 18.
The Han EV is priced starting at VND 1,489,000,000 (approximately $58,930), while the M6 MPV begins at VND 756,000,000 in Vietnam. The Han EV, BYD’s flagship sedan, was initially launched in July 2020 and has undergone several significant updates over the years. The 2025 model, which debuted in China on September 9, is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants, with prices starting at RMB 179,800 ($25,280) for the electric version and RMB 165,800 for the hybrid.
Unlike the Han EV, the M6 is not currently available in BYD’s home market of China. The original fuel-powered version of the M6 was introduced in July 2010 but has since been discontinued. BYD reintroduced the M6 to the market with the launch of the all-electric version in Indonesia on July 21, marking the country’s first all-electric MPV. The M6 was subsequently launched in Thailand on September 9.
In Vietnam, BYD previously launched three models on July 18, which include the compact hatchback Dolphin, the mid-sized sedan Seal, and the compact crossover Atto 3, known in China as the Yuan Plus.
Currently, BYD does not operate a factory in Vietnam, and all models are imported into the country. The company reported record sales of 419,426 NEVs in September, marking its fourth consecutive month of record sales, which is a 45.91 percent increase year-on-year and a 12.42 percent rise compared to August. Of these, 33,012 vehicles were sold in overseas markets, reflecting a 17.74 percent year-on-year increase and a 4.96 percent rise from August.
