Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD has officially entered the Cyprus passenger vehicle market, continuing its rapid expansion in Europe. The company announced on Tuesday it launched four NEV models in Cyprus as part of its growing European footprint.
The models introduced include the electric SUVs Yuan Plus and Sealion 07, the electric sedan Seal, and the hybrid SUV Song Plus DM-i. Locally, the Yuan Plus is branded as Atto 3, the Sealion 07 as Sealion 7, and the Song Plus DM-i as Seal U DM-i.
The Atto 3 is available in two variants with starting prices of 33,990 euros ($38,630) and 35,990 euros. The Seal electric sedan comes in two versions priced at 45,990 euros and 48,990 euros. The Sealion 7 SUV is offered in three variants ranging from 49,990 euros to 56,490 euros, while the Seal U DM-i hybrid SUV is available in three trims priced between 35,990 euros and 42,990 euros.
BYD officially entered the European passenger vehicle market in September 2022 and has since emerged as a key player in the region’s NEV sector. According to market research firm Jato Dynamics, BYD registered 7,231 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Europe in April, surpassing Tesla for the first time, which logged 7,165 units.
The company reported selling 382,476 vehicles globally in May, representing a 15.27 percent year-on-year increase and a 0.63 percent month-on-month rise. Overseas NEV sales reached 89,047 units in May, marking the sixth consecutive month of record-breaking international sales. This figure reflects a year-on-year growth of 137.46 percent and a month-on-month increase of 12.60 percent.
