BYD Europe and Shell EV Charging Solutions have joined forces to provide at least 100,000 BYD customers in Europe with discounted access to DC and HPC charging on the Shell Recharge network. Platinum membership to the Shell Recharge network will be given to customers who purchase a BYD all-electric car or plug-in hybrid from a BYD dealer, providing them with reduced rates at Shell’s fast and ultra-fast charging stations. The offer is activated via the Shell Recharge app after the dealer transmits the Platinum membership and charging card.
This cooperation between BYD Europe and Shell is part of a larger global partnership that the two companies entered into in March 2022, covering e-mobility in China, India, and Europe. As part of the partnership, they will develop fleet solutions, exclusive charging services for BYD customers, and charging initiatives in China. They also plan to offer integrated home energy solutions, including dynamic tariff planning for the wallbox, home batteries, integration of PV systems, and vehicle-to-grid functions for the electric vehicles.

Shell has pledged to explore how its technologies and products, such as e-fluids and coolants, can be used to help BYD save further costs and improve hardware performance. This approach mirrors Shell’s previous collaboration with German company Kreisel in 2020, which developed a battery solution combining Kreisel’s Li-ion module technology with Shell’s thermal management fluid.
BYD has recently announced plans to bring two new electric models to Europe, the Dolphin and Seal, in the coming months, adding to the already available Atto 3, Tang, and Han models. The Seal mid-size sedan and the Dolphin compact electric car will be available in Europe from August/September and June/July, respectively.

As more car manufacturers and energy companies follow this example, we can expect to see significant progress towards a zero-emission future.
