BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has now launched its EV models for sale in Spain, including the Atto 3 SUV, Tang SUV, and Han sedan. The company plans to open two ‘BYD Pioneer Stores’ in Madrid and Barcelona in the coming weeks, with additional retail outlets to follow in Valencia, the Canary Islands, Malaga, and Seville, as well as more stores in Madrid and Barcelona in 2023. Astara, Quadis, and Caetano Retail Spain will provide sales and aftersales support for BYD customers in Spain.
BYD already offers its electric cars in several European countries, including the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France, Belgium, and the UK. The company also plans to launch in other European countries soon, though it hasn’t specified which ones. Finland and Iceland are expected to be among the next markets, following recent partnership deals with RSA, which now includes Finland and Iceland.

“BYD is committed to accelerating the transition to electric mobility, and we are delighted to be bringing our cutting-edge electric vehicles to Spanish drivers,” said BYD Europe Managing Director, Isbrand Ho. “We are confident that our models will be very popular, offering unbeatable value and performance, together with impressive build quality and class-leading technology.”
This latest expansion is part of BYD’s plan to sell 3.6 million EVs in 2023, which is double the number sold last year. The company is ramping up production and has announced three new battery plants in China since last November. Furthermore, rumors suggest that BYD may consider taking over Ford’s factory in the German state of Saarlouis, though no official confirmation has been made.
BYD’s launch in Spain is not the only recent expansion for the automaker, as the company has also recently launched in Mexico, where it offers its Tang SUV and Han sedan. “To start the passenger vehicle business in Mexico is a dream BYD has been pursuing for years, and the dream has come true today,” said Zou Zhou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico, at the launch.
