Brussels Funds Installation of Fast and Ultra-Fast EV Charging Stations with €500,000, Selecting 11 Projects

The government of the Brussels Capital Region is investing 500,000 euros to install fast and ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles. 11 projects were chosen for funding, including four hubs with a total of 116 charging points for public parking areas, four hubs with four charging points each for ultra-fast charging, a project with 43 charging points for electric taxis, and two fast chargers specifically for vans and trucks.

In this context, “fast” charging points refer to stations with power ratings between 22 and 50 kW, while “ultra-fast” charging points are those with power ratings of 51 kW or higher, often including 150 kW chargers and even more powerful models.

In addition to these projects, the ChargyClick program, managed by Sibelga, will install an additional 1,400 charging points on the streets of Brussels this year. As a result, every resident of Brussels will be able to find a charging station within 150 meters of their home, according to Alain Maron, the minister responsible for climate and the environment.

“We support these innovative fast-charging projects to ensure that residents, workers and visitors to our capital can always find a charging option that meets their needs,” says Maron.

The government of Brussels plans to have 22,000 publicly available charging stations by 2035. Starting in 2025, all parking areas with ten or more spaces in the Brussels region will be required to have a minimum number of charging points, with stricter regulations set to take effect in 2030.
