BMW is introducing a series of upgrades across its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, increasing driving range and adding new features to its i5 and iX models for upcoming model years.
The 2025 BMW i5 eDrive40 now offers up to 310 miles of range, up from 295 miles in the previous model. The i5 xDrive40 also sees a modest improvement, rising to 278 miles from 266 miles.

BMW attributed the enhancements to “a number of technical advances that reduce energy consumption, and, thus, improve their range.” These improvements include a more efficient and powerful silicon carbide (SiC) inverter.
The 2026 iX xDrive60 also received a revised EPA-estimated range of 364 miles when equipped with 20-inch Aero wheels and summer tires. That figure represents a 7% increase from the originally expected 340 miles, and a significant gain over the 309 miles of the outgoing 2025 model.

BMW is also expanding customization options. The i5 and other 5 Series models will be available in a new Frozen Portimao Blue metallic paint, along with two new Merino leather interior colors: Dark Violet/Atlas Grey and Taupe/Atlas Grey.
Despite the technological upgrades, the 2026 iX will debut at a lower price point due to the addition of a new xDrive45 base variant starting at $75,150 — a $12,100 reduction compared to the previous entry-level model. The SUV also introduces refreshed design elements, including vertical headlights and an illuminated Kidney Grille.
