BMW has unveiled its latest electric vehicle (EV), the Vision Neue Klasse X, marking the next chapter in its “Neue Klasse” EV design strategy. This new Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) represents BMW’s commitment to electrification and will enter production next year.
The “Neue Klasse” (new class) strategy signifies BMW’s move towards a new era of branded vehicles offering enhanced performance. The Vision Neue Klasse X is part of this strategy and promises 30% more range, 30% faster charging, and a 25% improvement in efficiency compared to current models.
Last year, BMW showcased its vision for the Neue Klasse with the unveiling of the Vision Neue Klasse sedan. This sedan, based on the i Vision Dee Concept, introduced the next generation of BMW iDrive and new personalized drive sounds. Frank Weber, a BMW Board of Management member, highlighted the advancements in Neue Klasse EVs, stating:
“Neue Klasse means BMW driving at an even higher level… We developed the first super-brain completely in-house… The result will be more dynamic performance, more precision, more efficiency, and even more fun to drive.”
The Vision Neue Klasse X is the next EV model in line after the sedan and is a departure from BMW’s traditional design language. It represents a new breed of vehicle with a focus on active lifestyle, efficient dynamics, and a confident stance. The SAV features taller ground clearance and a spacious interior adorned with sustainably sourced and manufactured materials.
BMW Chairman Oliver Zipse emphasized the significance of the Neue Klasse, stating:
“Together with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X showcases the breadth of our future BMW model line-up… The Neue Klasse is redefining the BMW brand and will be more BMW than ever.”
While the Vision Neue Klasse represented BMW’s plans for all-electric sedans, the Vision X provides a glimpse into its future SAVs and SUVs. BMW’s future BEV models will be designed based on three core principles: electric, digital, and circular. The Vision Neue Klasse X serves as a design exercise, hinting at the elements that will define BMW’s third chapter in electrification.
