BMW has been making waves in the world of electric vehicles with the release of its first fully electric 7 series last year, the i7. With a range of over 300 miles and top-of-the-line luxury features, including an impressive 31-inch “theatre screen,” massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof, and more, the i7 quickly became a hit in Europe and China before landing in US dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Now, the German luxury automaker has taken things up a notch with the release of its most powerful electric vehicle yet, the i7 M70 xDrive. This latest addition to BMW’s EV lineup boasts an impressive dual electric motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers up to 811 lb-ft of torque and 660 horsepower, making it the fastest and most powerful EV model to date.

With a range of between 303 to 348 WLTP miles and a top speed of 56 mph, the i7 M70 xDrive is a long-range EV that is perfect for both city driving and long-distance road trips. And for the first time ever, BMW has included a unique illuminated kidney iconic glow around the grille, as well as M-specific design features along the flanks, at the rear, and in the interior, making the i7 M70 xDrive a true masterpiece of automotive engineering.

The i7 M70 xDrive is set to be a main growth driver for BMW in China, where it has already proven to be a hot seller. However, BMW’s CEO has confirmed that there will be lower-priced electric models in the automaker’s lineup, but the i7 M70 xDrive will not be one of them, as it is the automaker’s most powerful electric vehicle to date.

To further enhance the driving experience, BMW has included M sport mode, which enables performance-specific graphics and BMW Iconic Sounds Electric, an “M Performance specific note,” while the sport mode further intensifies the experience with additional sounds. This latest EV from BMW also comes with a max range mode, which increases range by roughly 15% to 25%, but it should be noted that the EV’s top speed is limited to 56 mph and climate control will be deactivated.

In addition to the i7 M70 xDrive, BMW has also confirmed that it will be launching a fully electric performance series 5 sedan, the i5, later this year. With BMW’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, it’s clear that the automaker is poised to continue leading the charge in the world of electric vehicles.
