BMW, renowned for its luxury vehicles, has unveiled unique iterations of its 5 Series Sedan and the all-electric i5 specifically tailored for the discerning Chinese market. The offerings, produced at the BMW Brilliance Automotive’s Dadong facility in Shenyang, exhibit notable enhancements, including an extended wheelbase, augmented rear space, and distinctive design elements.
In a bid to cater to the preferences of a younger generation of Chinese customers, who place a premium on captivating charisma and individuality, the designs have been revamped with prominent gold accents throughout. These accents are tastefully integrated into various components, such as the outline of the iconic BMW kidney grille, the wheel rims, and the window line. This contrasts with the European models, where such details typically adopt an aluminum or black finish. Notably, no alterations to the market-specific drive technology have been explicitly cited.
However, deviations are observable in the charging technology domain. Given the distinct Chinese charging standard known as GB/T, which mandates separate connectors for AC and DC charging, the Chinese i5 variant boasts an additional charging flap. Positioned strategically, the AC port is anticipated to be situated within the novel charging port positioned between the driver’s door and the front wheel. On the other hand, the DC port finds its home within the familiar “fuel cap” of the 5 Series Sedan, positioned above the right rear wheel.
