At the Beijing Auto Show, the newly unveiled Zeekr MIX offers a glimpse into what to expect from Waymo’s upcoming purpose-built self-driving taxi. The MIX, built on Geely’s new SEA-M platform, shares similarities with Waymo’s future vehicle, which will also use the same platform. Described as “the private buyer’s version of the Waymo” by some, the MIX prioritizes space, comfort, and safety over performance, aiming to be “an intelligent living room on wheels.”

With a length of 15 feet, the MIX is slightly shorter than a Tesla Model Y but offers a spacious interior, thanks to its nearly 10-foot wheelbase. The vehicle features a tight turning circle of less than ten meters, ideal for maneuvering in congested urban areas. Sliding doors and various seating configurations allow for easy access and accommodate up to six passengers.

The Zeekr MIX utilizes a steer-by-wire system, enabling variable steering ratios and the ability to decouple the steering wheel for autonomous driving, a feature expected in the Waymo vehicle. While Zeekr has not confirmed the power output, it is believed to have a single motor delivering 310 kW (415 bhp).

Geely plans to expand into Europe, targeting sales in several countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. However, the MIX may not be immediately available in these markets. As for Waymo’s self-driving taxi, a camouflaged version was recently spotted in San Francisco, but the exact unveiling date remains unknown.
