Beep, a company that provides autonomous shared mobility solutions, has teamed up with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to expand its Connected Autonomous Shuttle Supporting Innovation (CASSI) program. The partnership aims to further the state’s understanding of autonomous technologies and demonstrate the viability of shared autonomy. NCDOT and Beep will collaborate on testing applicable use cases for shared, electric, and autonomous shuttles.
The first pilot project under this partnership will be in Cary, North Carolina’s Fred G. Bond Metro Park, a municipal park in Wake County. The four-stop, two-mile route provides an environmentally friendly mobility solution for residents and visitors to easily access the 310-acre park at their leisure.
Beep CEO Joe Moye emphasized the potential of autonomous shuttles to address carbon emissions, noise pollution, road safety, and roadway congestion while extending mobility access.
The NCDOT and Beep plan to establish additional test locations in the state, furthering their understanding of shared autonomous mobility in practice and evolving the CASSI program as technology advances. This partnership highlights the growing interest in autonomous transportation solutions and the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing these technologies.
