National charging network Be.EV has launched a new ultra-rapid EV charging hub in Sheffield, marking a significant addition to the city’s electric vehicle infrastructure. Located at the Parkway Central Retail Park, the new site features nine Kempower chargers capable of delivering up to 150kW of power. Positioned on a key trunk road between Sheffield city centre and the M1 motorway, the hub is strategically placed to serve the estimated 66,000 vehicles passing the site daily, just three miles from the city centre.

This installation represents a phased approach, with the infrastructure designed to accommodate a total of 20 charging bays in the future. While no specific expansion plans have been announced, Be.EV notes that the current setup allows for easy upgrades to meet the growing demand for EV charging as adoption increases. “This phased approach means the hub takes up the right amount of space for now, and can be easily upgraded for the future as EV adoption grows,” the company stated.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, highlighted the importance of the new charging hub in the context of Sheffield’s air quality goals. “The air pollution deaths statistics in Sheffield are shocking and need to be drastically reduced,” Ghafoor said. He emphasized that making EVs more accessible through reliable public charging infrastructure is key to driving the transition. “This ultra-rapid charging hub at Parkway is a step in the right direction,” he added.

Be.EV’s growth is evident, with frequent announcements of new charging installations across the UK. The company has also been expanding its network by partnering with the Paua and Plugsurfing networks, and securing £55 million in funding earlier this year to further develop its infrastructure.
