Bajaj Auto, a leading Indian manufacturer of two- and three-wheelers, is in discussions with Swiss micromobility startup Micro Mobility Systems regarding a potential partnership for the Microlino electric quadricycle. The Indian automaker is also considering acquiring a significant minority stake in the company, according to a report from Autocar Professional.
Discussions between the two companies began nearly a year ago, with Micro Mobility Systems’ founder and chairman, Wim Ouboter, visiting Bajaj Auto’s manufacturing facility in Maharashtra alongside his sons, Oliver and Merlin Ouboter, who serve as the company’s Operations Manager and Marketing Manager, respectively.

Bajaj Auto is evaluating the possibility of manufacturing the Microlino for both the Indian and global markets, leveraging its cost-efficient production capabilities. The company has previously manufactured entry-level KTM motorcycles for global markets, following a similar model. The potential collaboration would help Micro Mobility Systems expand its presence while benefiting from India’s competitive manufacturing ecosystem.
The Microlino features a distinctive front door design, but Bajaj Auto may introduce a variant with conventional side access. The electric quadricycle is powered by a single motor generating 12.3 kW and 17.9 Nm of torque, achieving 0-50 kph acceleration in five seconds and a top speed of 90 kph. It offers three battery options: 5.5 kWh, 10.5 kWh, and 15 kWh, providing a range of up to 93 km, 177 km, and 228 km, respectively, under the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) standards.

In addition to the electric version, Bajaj Auto is reportedly exploring a new combustion-engine variant of the Microlino. This version could feature a 650 cc twin-cylinder engine with petrol or CNG fuel options, expanding the model’s appeal in markets where EV infrastructure is still developing.
Bajaj Auto holds a dominant position in India’s three-wheeler market, with over 65% market share, and is also a key player in the two-wheeler segment. Currently, the Microlino is produced in Turin, Italy, by Italian manufacturing firm CECOMP. The potential partnership with Bajaj Auto could significantly enhance production capacity and bring the Microlino to a broader customer base worldwide.
