U.S. bus manufacturer ENC has announced a partnership with wireless charging firm InductEV to incorporate high-power inductive charging systems into its battery-electric buses, enhancing operational flexibility and charging efficiency for transit agencies across North America. The system, developed by InductEV, delivers up to 450 kW of wireless power via ground-embedded charging pads that automatically activate when aligned with a compatible underbody pad on the vehicle. “This intelligent approach to electrification reduces infrastructure footprint, maximizes fleet uptime, and enhances overall transit system reliability,” InductEV said in a statement. Spanish energy utility Endesa has inaugurated Catalonia’s most powerful electric vehicle (EV) charging hub, located 27 kilometres from Barcelona at the Parc Vallès shopping centre. The new facility offers a total installed capacity of 1.6 megawatts and is now the second-largest charging location in Spain. The charging hub includes 30 bays spread across three areas of the shopping centre’s carpark. Among the charging points are eight ultra-fast 300kW units, six 60kW fast chargers, and 16 semi-fast 22kW chargers. The first phase of the project saw ten 22kW chargers installed in 2023, while the second phase added the remaining 20 bays,…
Volkswagen Group reported a sharp rise in battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales in Europe during the first quarter, while deliveries in China dropped by over a third, underscoring diverging trends in the global EV market for the German carmaker. Volkswagen’s BEV sales more than doubled in Europe, supported by rising demand and the expansion of its electric model lineup. Orders across Western Europe rose 29% year-on-year for both electric and combustion vehicles, the company said. British engineering firm Ricardo has developed a prototype electric motor that eliminates the need for rare earth elements, in a move aimed at reducing reliance on critical raw materials in electric vehicle (EV) production. The newly developed synchronous reluctance motor, known as the Alumotor, was created through a consortium led by Ricardo and supported by funding from Innovate UK. Unlike traditional EV motors that use rare earth magnets or materials like cobalt, the Alumotor is built using aluminium hairpin windings. PFI FERSA Automotive and SEG Automotive have announced a remanufactured electric drive unit for early Renault Zoe models, offering a more affordable alternative to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacements. The new solution, marketed under the ‘redrive’ brand, is expected to be commercially available by June 2025. The companies claim that the unit will be priced around 30% lower than conventional OEM options. The offering targets early-generation Renault Zoe vehicles, which were among the first battery-electric cars to enter mass production in Europe following their launch in 2012. With many of these vehicles now out of manufacturer warranty, the new solution…
Vauxhall has reduced the prices of all its electric vehicles to under £40,000 in response to the UK government’s revised Expensive Car Supplement, which adds a £2,125 tax burden on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) priced above this threshold. The change, which came into effect on April 1, eliminates the previous road tax exemption for BEVs. While new electric cars priced below £40,000 will now pay a first-year Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) of £10, those exceeding the threshold will face an annual £425 surcharge for five years. Vauxhall’s decision ensures its EVs remain exempt from the higher tax, keeping ownership costs…
