Nissan announced plans to cut 9,000 jobs and reduce its global manufacturing capacity by 20% as part of a cost-cutting strategy to save 400 billion yen ($2.6 billion) this fiscal year. The decision comes as Japan’s third-largest automaker faces a sharp decline in sales in major markets, particularly in China and the United States. The automaker revised its annual profit outlook down 70% to 150 billion yen ($975 million) on Thursday, marking its second adjustment this year. Nissan’s CEO Makoto Uchida explained that the company underestimated the rapid rise in demand for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in the U.S. market,…
The US state of Delaware will use a combination of state and federal funds to establish a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along key highways, with the first installations planned at petrol stations in Camden and Harrington by 2025. The state will build ten additional charging sites across major corridors such as Route 13, Route 113, Route 1, and Interstate 95, with final details on their locations and timeline currently in development. Details on the expected sale proceeds remain unavailable. The move highlights the challenges posed by the Netherlands’ dense population and high property costs,…
At the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Irizar and FCC Medio Ambiente introduced H2TRUCK, the first electric chassis platform for heavy urban transport vehicles designed and manufactured entirely in Spain. The vehicle features a hybrid system combining a hydrogen fuel cell with a lithium-ion battery, offering a sustainable solution for urban service vehicles. The H2TRUCK platform is designed for 100% electric traction, with plug-in capabilities and a fuel cell that generates electricity through the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Although technical details remain limited, the prototype has already undergone real-world testing on waste collection routes across various…
Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure has announced a landmark policy to cease the registration of petrol-powered motorcycles for public transport in Kigali, starting January 2025. This initiative, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and curbing air pollution, marks a significant shift in the country’s transportation landscape. Petrol-powered motorbikes currently account for about 20% of all trips in Rwanda’s capital, contributing significantly to the pollution levels. As part of its broader climate goals, the Rwandan government plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 38% by 2030. The transition to electric motorcycles is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this target.…
Electreon is collaborating with TransIsrael, a government agency under the Israeli Ministry of Transport, to introduce wireless charging for electric buses along Haifa’s Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) network. The initiative, which spans a 104-kilometre BRT route, will incorporate both inductive charging stations at terminal stops and dynamic charging during the buses’ journeys. While only a small segment of the BRT network will feature inductive charging loops—covering just 1.6 km of the route—the majority of the charging will occur at stationary systems located at the terminal stops. The dynamic charging system will provide supplementary power during the buses’ travel, aiming to…
Honda and GoCimo, a Swedish electric motorcycle rental service, are launching a one-year trial in Malmö, Sweden, to test the viability of battery swapping for electric motorcycles. The trial, scheduled to begin in February 2025, will involve the installation of Honda’s “Power Pack Exchanger e” at three locations in the city, where users of GoCimo’s all-electric EM1 e scooters can exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones. Honda will provide 30 EM1 e electric scooters and 60 Honda Mobile Power Pack e batteries for the trial. GoCimo will manage the battery-sharing service, securing the swapping station locations and acquiring customers.…
Lilium, the German electric flying taxi developer, has been granted approval by the Weilheim Local Court to undergo restructuring under self-administration, following its recent insolvency filing. This move aims to preserve the company, with management retaining control over operations during the process, supported by restructuring experts. However, the success of this strategy largely depends on Lilium securing new investors, with KPMG now tasked with finding potential buyers or financial backers. The company, which had long sought state support from the German government and the state of Bavaria, was unsuccessful in obtaining funding, leading to the insolvency filing last week. Despite…
