The Biden administration will provide $2.8 billion in grants for battery manufacturing projects in the US. In addition , the grant funds will also be used to encourage domestic production of key minerals for electric vehicle batteries . The BMW Group announced an investment of up to $1.7 billion in two electric vehicle production facilities in the United States. The two factories are targeted to build six models of electric vehicles by 2030. The German auto giant said it plans to invest $1 billion to upgrade its existing Plant Spartanburg manufacturing facility in South Carolina. General Motors said it is setting up a new business unit offering its own solar power and storage systems from late next year. The new unit, called GM Energy will provide solar panels and home energy storage for residential and commercial users. Commercial operations are already underway, while the home energy system will be available from next year when the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV goes on sale. NIO officially entered the European electric vehicle market after holding NIO Berlin 2022 on October 7th. Motional signed a 10-year deal to supply Hyundai’s IONIQ 5-based autonomous vehicles to Uber. The vehicles will operate in US cities and begin offering passenger rides later this year.
