The Austrian Post has successfully transitioned to CO2-free deliveries in Innsbruck, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts. Following the announcement made a year ago, the company has promptly implemented the switch, deploying 145 electric vehicles (EVs) across the city.

In its endeavor to electrify its delivery fleet, the Austrian Post has acquired 70 new electric vehicles, complementing its existing EV fleet comprised of various manufacturer models. The lineup includes the Renault Kangoo Z.E., vans from Citroën, Opel, and Nissan, as well as larger vans such as the MAN eTGE and Mercedes eSprinter, offering up to eleven cubic meters of cargo space. Additionally, the Austrian Post plans to integrate EVs and e-scooters into its operations in Innsbruck.

Parcels originating from the Tyrol logistics centre in Vomp are distributed, while letters, print media, and direct mail items are handled from three delivery bases within the Innsbruck city area. To support the expanded EV fleet, the Austrian Post has installed 126 charging stations, facilitating efficient operations. The total investment for this initiative amounts to approximately four million euros.

Notably, the Austrian Post recently procured 703 electric vans from the Chinese SAIC commercial vehicle brand Maxus, comprising 700 units of the Maxus eDeliver 3 model and three units of the larger eDeliver 9. These vehicles, delivered in May 2023, are slated for use across Austria.

Since 2022, the Austrian Post has been steadfast in its commitment to electrifying its delivery fleet, aiming for a fully electric fleet by 2030. Alongside Innsbruck, Salzburg stands as another city benefitting from locally emission-free delivery services. The “Green Innsbruck” project has further propelled the Austrian Post’s sustainability agenda, with the recent deployment of its 4,000th electric vehicle. The fleet composition now encompasses 1,052 e-bikes, e-cargo bikes, e-mopeds, and e-trikes, along with 2,970 e-transporters.
