Audi has officially launched sales of the AUDI E7X in China, marking the second model from its China-exclusive AUDI sub-brand as the German automaker deepens its partnership with SAIC in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
The all-electric crossover SUV was unveiled at the Shenzhen Auto Show on May 29 and is available in five variants, with prices ranging from 279,900 yuan to 372,900 yuan (approximately €34,200 to €45,600).
The E7X follows the AUDI E5 Sportback, the first model under the new AUDI brand, which departs from Audi’s traditional four-ring badge. The company has also confirmed plans to introduce a third model, a fully electric sedan, in 2027.
Built on the Advanced Digitized Platform jointly developed by Audi and SAIC, the E7X is positioned in the full-size SUV segment. The vehicle measures 5.05 metres in length, 2.0 metres in width, and 1.71 metres in height, while its wheelbase stretches to 3.06 metres.
The electric SUV is underpinned by a 900-volt architecture across all versions and is offered with two powertrain configurations.
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive model delivers 300 kW of power, while the all-wheel-drive variant combines a 300 kW rear motor with a 200 kW front motor for a total output of 500 kW. Both electric motors are supplied by Huayu Automotive, a subsidiary of SAIC.
Audi states that the E7X has an electronically limited top speed of 230 kph.
Energy is supplied by battery packs sourced from CATL, with customers able to choose between capacities of 100 kWh and 109 kWh. The longest-range version is rated at up to 751 kilometres under China’s testing cycle.
Fast-charging capability is one of the vehicle’s key features. According to Audi, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% state of charge in approximately 13 minutes using 4C charging technology.
Chinese media reports indicate that the charging system can recover approximately 429 kilometres of driving range in just 10 minutes, although Audi has not disclosed the peak charging power achieved during the process.
The launch also raises questions about a potential future introduction of the model outside China.
Industry reports previously suggested Audi was considering bringing the E7X to European markets. The company further fueled speculation after filing trademark protection for the E7X name with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in December.
However, trademark registration does not necessarily indicate a future market launch and may simply serve to protect the model designation within the European market.
Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, said the new model expands the company’s electric vehicle strategy in China.
“With the E5 Sportback, which has been honored as China Car of the Year 2026, we opened a new chapter for Audi in China’s electric age. The AUDI E7X now extends that pioneering vision to the important SUV segment,” said Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG.
“With a clear product development roadmap that is seamlessly integrated with the Chinese innovation ecosystem, we look confidently to the future with more tailor-made models to come in the next few years,” Döllner added.
Fermín Soneira, CEO of the Audi and SAIC Cooperation Project, said the E7X combines Audi’s traditional strengths with technologies developed specifically for Chinese customers.
“The AUDI E7X is the first SUV built on the Advanced Digitized Platform—a vehicle that balances Audi heritage with future. Totally new yet unmistakably AUDI. Progressive design, superior driving dynamics, and the latest innovations blended in a family-focused SUV,” said Fermín Soneira, CEO of the Audi and SAIC Cooperation Project.
The E7X forms part of Audi’s broader strategy to accelerate its electrification efforts in China through locally developed products tailored to the preferences of Chinese consumers, while leveraging SAIC’s manufacturing and technology capabilities.
