Atlis Motor Vehicles Unveils Revolutionary Megawatt Charging Technology on New EV Charger

The electric vehicle (EV) market has seen significant growth in recent years, with consumers and automakers alike emphasizing the importance of charging speed. Faster charging times allow for less downtime during long road trips and enable more vehicles to be charged by a single charger throughout the day. In response to this need, Atlis Motor Vehicles, an electric truck startup, has unveiled one of the most rapid charging technologies on the market: a charging rate of just over 1 megawatt.

The company recently posted a video online showcasing its new high-speed charger, which was plugged into a demonstration testbed that highlights the key specifications of the test. Atlis is engineering its own EV platform, an electric truck, and a charging solution that could be one of the fastest and most advanced charging technologies on the market.

One of the key features of Atlis’ charging platform is its proprietary charging plug design, as seen in the video. This unique design allows for the necessary cooling technology to be fitted within the handle and cable, enabling the cable to charge above 1000 amps while remaining cool to the touch. Atlis notes that the charger has been designed not only for its electric truck and EVs but also for commercial use cases such as mining, construction, and marine segments.

Atlis is not the only automaker pursuing megawatt charging technology. Tesla is already in the process of implementing megawatt charging for the Tesla Semi as well as the upcoming Cybertruck. With charging rates as high as this, even the massive battery of the Tesla Semi can be fully charged in just 90 minutes.

As the EV market continues to grow, megawatt charging may become a central goal within the auto industry. However, with the incredible power necessary for these chargers, energy generation and the grid may need to catch up and support the new technology. In the meantime, Atlis Motor Vehicles’ demonstration of its cutting-edge charging technology is a significant step forward in the evolution of EV charging.
